Description

2017 marks the fifth year of the Medieval Festival in Wellingborough!

Step back in time and enjoy being entertained at the Festival, which is back this year with bigger and better acts and more fun for all. This is a very authentic event with a wide range of period entertainment and the perfect blend of fun and learning for the whole family.

You will have a magical medieval experience, listening to wonderful music played by our Medieval music band, participating in the ferret racing, the falconry display or the archery, watching magicians perform their tricks and learning new skills or brushing up on old ones at the Circus Workshop.

Wander around the town and bump into a collection of colourful characters from the distant past, which may include the Executioner, the Barber Surgeon, the Jester and more…..

We have two, yes two! horses with knights in armour at the Tithe Barn lawn. A quick walk and you are at Croyland Gardens, where re-enactors live in authentic medieval encampments for the whole weekend and would like nothing more than to chat to you about life in medieval times. Nip across to The Museum where children can dress up in medieval costume and joust on hobby horses. There is also medieval dancing for all!

Saturday morning visit the Medieval Fayre at All Hallows Church; refreshments are served in the Church Hall. Sunday brings the grand Medieval Service to All Hallows with opportunities to look around the Medieval Church.

If you’re looking to take a little break with a difference, pop into the Tithe Barn on Saturday and you will be at the Craft and Vintage Fayre where you can browse amongst stalls selling a wonderful selection of hand crafted items by talented local crafters and some vintage accessories from days gone by.

Whether this is the first time that you are visiting or, like many, are returning for another year, we look forward to welcoming you to this year’s Festival.

Description

Welcome to Wellingborough

Wellingborough is a market town and borough in Northamptonshire, England, situated 11 miles from the county town of Northampton. The town is situated on the north side of the River Nene, most of the older town is sited on the flanks of the hills above the river's current flood plain. Due to frequent flooding by the River Nene, the town was mostly built above the current level of the flood plain. Originally named "Wendelingburgh", the settlement was established in the Saxon period and is mentioned in the Domesday Book under the name of "Wendelburie". The town was granted a royal market charter in 1201, by King John of England.

Croyland Gardens, is situated outside the 16th Century Croyland Abbey and Croyland Hall and in the grounds of the Wellingborough Zoo Park, which closed down in 1970.  The area is marked as a public realm space for improvement and is used in recent years to host the Wellingborough Medieval Festival in June.
